I first heard about mango chili salt from an Indian friend who highly recommended I try it. At first, I thought he was joking because it sounded unusual to me, but when he insisted seriously, I decided to give it a try.
This combination is typically paired with green mangoes because the salt balances the sharpness of the fruit, and the chili adds an umami flavor. That day, I went home and checked my cupboard for ingredients similar to what my friend suggested. I found sweet Alphonso mangoes, Himalayan salt, and Gochujang chili flakes.
To add a bit of tang, I also squeezed in some lime juice. After my first bite, it really worked—the spice and the sweet balanced perfectly. I ended up devouring the entire dish in no time. It’s a delicious experience you have to try for yourself!
